The Big Barking Riverside Picnic returned to the bank of the River Thames in July, with local residents invited to the second annual community event, featuring Barking Riverside’s very own pop-up beach.

Over 250 guests attended the fun filled family event and immersed themselves in the numerous activities that took place throughout the afternoon. Zumba classes, miniature golf, giant games and face painting were run by local groups including Triangoals and Creative Wellness, while delicious Yoggy treats, fresh popcorn and limited edition picnic hampers were on offer for guests to enjoy.

Sarah McCready, Head of Placemaking and Communications, comments, “We were delighted to host our second annual community picnic this weekend, welcoming both new and returning residents to our pop-up beach. This year, we were pleased to build on our previous partnerships with local groups and offer a much wider range of resident-led activities, really making this an event for local people, by local people. We also took the opportunity to ask residents what else they would like to see the beach offer and look forward to bringing some of these ideas into play over the summer!”

Local residents commented on their delight at the return of the annual picnic, and a number of potential purchasers, visiting the nearby L&Q Sales Suite, joined in the fun - and were impressed to see the fantastic community spirit at Barking Riverside.
